I just stared at this for about 13 minutes. woah.

I saw this at Ellis Island in May, and it made me think of cool photo projects I might want to do at some point when I become a professional photographer at the age of 115 when I’ve already done everything else in the world that there is to do. Then, I realized that I’m 17 and I’m kind of unproductive this summer.

I’m going to be embarking upon this very new (to me, at least) endeavor where I’ll be picking up a white sheet, hanging it in my room, and setting up a cheap lighting station. From there, I’ll be calling friend after friend over to take three shots of them, in color: a straight-faced mugshot, and two profile views of them making whatever face they would like to make.

When these shots are completed, I’ll edit the color scheme of all of them the same way to maintain uniformity (but they will not be in straight color as I will have taken them), and then I’m going to get all of them printed and figure out a cool way to present them (be it a scrap book, a collage, a wall hanging, hanging each one individually from a clothesline in my dorm room or whatever).

I think what’s cool about what this is going to show is that we all are pretty much the same. We often hear from public figures that want unity that “we are one.” This project is going to show that, as a matter of fact, they’re right. The genetic variation between humans is so slight as to being essentially negligible, yet we spend so much time arguing over inconsequential matters and differences. Seeing that we’re all pretty much the same (when you line all these pictures up next to each other) might be a good reminder as to the fact that we should try a bit harder to let the world spin and do its thang without all our disruptions.
